I was really afraid to even try buying this edition, but I am very glad I took the risk. My colored version plays BETTER than the regular, black edition. My only issue was a popping noise every two seconds for about five times, at the very beginning side B / track 2. Other than that, vinyl plays fine with some surface noise very sporadically. One aspect that everybody experienced and mine was not exception was the very low volume. And this is the same for both black and colored editions. Not sure how this compares to the tan and gold versions, but black may not be much improved.

Album is very quiet, as in most versions of this release. That is understandable to an extent and seems likely by design; thematically this score almost demands a high dynamic range. Unfortunately at least my copy of the disc is still plagued by serious problems, essentially ruining the first and last songs and compromising most of the rest. Absolutely gorgeous artwork and presentation though. Will serve just as well to put it on the TT with the needle up and just play the FLAC. Also, the final page of the booklet where Clint Mansell writes of his experience is heartbreaking and wonderful.
